What you can see from Pench in November 2026

November brings clear, cool evenings, two meteor showers, a dark new-moon night and a rare chance to find the distant planet Uranus. Times are in Indian Standard Time.

The Moon

Moon phases

PhaseDate and time (IST)
Last quarter2 November, about 2:00 am
New moon9 November, about 12:30 pm
First quarter17 November, about 5:20 pm
Full moon24 November, about 8:20 pm

The skies around 9 November are the darkest of the month, so we are holding a New Moon Deep-Sky Night then, for star clusters, faint nebulae and the Milky Way. The week around the full moon on 24 November is best for the Moon's craters through a telescope.

Meteors

Taurids and Leonids

  • Taurids (peaks around 5 and 12 November). Slow, sometimes bright meteors, not many per hour, but occasionally a brilliant fireball.
  • Leonids (17 to 18 November). Fast, bright meteors from Comet Tempel–Tuttle, up to about 15 an hour at best. The Moon sets just after midnight, so the best time is about 2 to 5 am, looking east towards Leo. We are holding a Leonid Meteor Shower Night on 17 November.

Planets and more

Planets and deep-sky highlights

  • Saturn is well placed in the evening sky this month, and the telescope view of its rings is a highlight of any session.
  • Uranus reaches opposition around 25 to 26 November, when it is closest and brightest for the year. It is faint, so binoculars or a telescope and a guide to find it are needed.
  • Mars and Jupiter appear close together in the pre-dawn sky around 16 November.
  • Winter sky: the Pleiades and the stars of Orion and Taurus rise in the evening, and the Andromeda Galaxy is well placed.

Exact visibility depends on the weather and your horizon. Message us for the plan for a particular night.
